About Parbatya Bouddha Mission (PBM)
Project Information
Working Strategy, Development Approach, Beneficiaries and Project
Location
Except for the PBM Orphanage and School, which are run continually,
PBM runs its programs on a project by project basis, which depends
on the funding it gets from its mainly international funding partners.
Projects sought for funding generally address issues that are most
critical for the beneficiaries, for example providing clean water
sources and medical services. Other projects address more long-term
issues and include improving women’s rights and place in
the society, making education available to those under the poverty
line and providing services like health planning and sanitary latrine
installation. PBM’s working strategy is a balance of dealing
with emergency situations and improving the lives of poor people
in the hilly areas. Its development approach is one of individual
attention and incorporation of the beneficiaries into the planning
and execution of the projects.
Beneficiaries
The people who benefit from PBM’s existence and projects
are greatly varied and involved in different capacities. Beneficiaries
for PBM’s projects are carefully chosen and are mainly destitute
women and poor orphaned children. Other projects also target landless
poor, day laborers, marginal farmers and young people.
Project Location
PBM currently works in the Khagrachari Hill District located in
the northeastern most part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT)
of southeastern Bangladesh. PBM is centrally located approximately
2 kilometers from the main city of Khagrachari but its projects
spread throughout the district and future plans include reaching
out to both Rangamati and Bandarban.
PBM’s campus covers about 5 acres of land and is surrounded
by rice paddy fields, banana, coconut, jackfruit and mango trees
and many villagers’ homes. PBM’s campus has about 12
buildings and construction is currently underway for a new boys’ dormitory
with more classroom space.
